Bio
Hello, My name is Areeba Moiz and I am an IMBRSEA student, aiming to pursue a career in Marine Conservation, Scientific Communication and Public Outreach. I aim to work towards protecting and preserving our oceans for future generations. I am passionate about creating awareness about what lies beneath the waves, which eventually gives life to us all!
Skills Leaned
During my professional practice, I worked in the Scientific Communications and Partnerships team and was heavily involved in stakeholder engagement, education and public outreach. Take a closer look at some of the main skills I learnt during my time at Cyan Planet.

Public Writing Skills
​
I got to enhance my writing skills as well as I co-wrote an article with Hannah about Cyan Planet and How is the Water, which is now published on ‘Conservation Optimism Blog’. This experience taught me ways to translate scientific information for general public, which is crucial to reach a global audience.
Social Media Engagement
I was able to sharpen my social media communications skills as well. I created new content to post on all Cyan Planet’s social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts. I was managing one of Cyan Planet’s Facebook page called ‘Ocean Locals’
Campaign Management

I gained experience in campaign management as I was able to learn about the procedures, and the steps to organize and manage a fundraising campaign. My supervisors taught me how to approach companies and personnel and communicate with them to get them involved in the project. I also learned the marketing techniques used to amplify the reach of the campaign. Furthermore, we arranged several meetings as well as live question and answers session during the campaign to further develop transparent communication with the stakeholders and ambassadors.
Scientific Communication and Public Outreach
While working for Cyan Planet, I was able to successfully build my professional competence by engaging with several stakeholders, partners, and ambassadors via online meetings, webinars and zoom sessions. I was able to effectively organize and conduct meetings with professionals from various fields as well as students who were working with Cyan Planet as volunteers and ambassadors. These experiences helped me sharpen my communication skills as well as improved my organizational skills.
